Disaster volunteer deploys to help with Hurricane Florence relief
Twin Cities Salvation Army disaster volunteer Eric Caple of Oakdale will deploy to South Carolina on Sept. 27 to spend 10 days serving as Operations Chief for The Salvation Army’s hurricane recovery efforts in Georgetown and surrounding communities.
Caple, 71, is a retired automotive worker. His volunteer duties will include leading the daily preparation and organization of Salvation Army vehicles, personnel and supplies.
This will be Caple’s first deployment outside of Minnesota.
“This job will be much larger than what I’ve experienced before,” said Caple, who recently served survivors and relief workers in southern Minnesota following last week’s outbreak of tornadoes. “I am excited. This is what we train for.”
Caple will join hundreds of expert Salvation Army disaster volunteers and staff members who are on site in North and South Carolina providing food, water and emotional support to thousands impacted by Hurricane Florence. Currently, The Salvation Army has 60 feeding locations in place throughout the Carolinas. To date, The Salvation Army has served 242,000 meals, 189,000 drinks, and hundreds of cleanup kits. In addition, emotional and spiritual care has been extended to nearly 18,000 people.
