Donate new shoes, get free T-Wolves tickets

Jan 7, 2016 | by Julie Borgen

Roseville, Minn. – For most people, wearing warm shoes that fit is an important part of surviving a Minnesota winter. But for the hundreds of homeless people living in the Twin Cities, that’s a luxury they may never experience.

But now, thanks to Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Karl-Anthony Towns, many more people will have the chance to keep their feet warm and dry this winter.

Towns is partnering with The Salvation Army to host a shoe drive. Now through Jan. 29, anyone who drops off a pair of new, unused shoes at the Target Center box office will get free tickets to a Timberwolves home game on either Feb. 8 or Feb. 22.  Fans will receive a voucher redeemable for two tickets to one of these games, for each pair of shoes they donate. (First come, first served, while supplies last.)

The Salvation Army needs adult shoes, for both men and women (including larger sizes), that are suitable for a Minnesota winter.

“We are grateful to Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves for hosting this shoe drive,” said Captain Katherine Clausell, leader of the Harbor Light Shelter in Minneapolis. “This will allow us to serve more people who need shoes, including those who might need larger sizes.”
