Guests receive Thanksgiving blessing from donors (video)

Nov 22, 2016

(Watch video) – As we near Thanksgiving, families plan large meals and travel distances to gather around the table. Others may choose to volunteer their time. And, many will walk through the doors of The Salvation Army to receive the blessing of a meal and fellowship on a day that they would have otherwise gone without.

Each year, we give our supporters the opportunity to send in a paper placement with a handwritten blessing for our guests. Last year, some guests lifted their plate to read their blessing. Overcome with tears, they clutched their blessing close to their hearts, exclaiming that these were the words they had needed. Instead of using their laminated placemat, many chose to tuck it away as a reminder to hang on their walls at home.

We filmed some of our meal guests receiving these blessings, so we could show you how valuable of a gesture this is. Watch the video below to hear from three of the recipients.

Thank you for making these meals possible. For each of our guests, it’s more than a full belly. Year after year people find comfort, hope, and community in a holiday meal. It’s an opportunity to meet new people, hear their stories, and share hopes and dreams. A time that could have been filled with loneliness is instead filled with laughter.

You are truly changing lives through the ways you share with others.

As you bless others, we pray for God’s blessing upon you through Numbers 6:24-16: “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace.”’

May God bless you with much to be thankful for.
