Holiday season is here and The Salvation Army is ready
Thanksgiving is fast approaching and The Salvation Army is ready to serve thousands of holiday meals and give away truckloads of toys and gifts to ensure a festive season for families across Minnesota and North Dakota.
“From Fargo to Fairmont, and everywhere in between, we’ll be serving at a time when everyone needs to feel cared for and have companionship,” explained Colonel Robert Thomson, The Salvation Army Northern Division leader.
While the planning and preparation is well underway, there is plenty of time to register to bell ring, or to volunteer in another way. You can also contact your local Salvation Army if you are in need of a meal or gifts.
Salvation Army locations that have a kitchen will be serving a Thanksgiving meal on either Wednesday evening or on Thanksgiving Day.
Many locations that don’t regularly serve hot meals will be offering Thanksgiving Day meal boxes, often complete with a turkey and all of the fixings that you can prepare at home. Other locations will offer gift cards that people can use to purchase their holiday meals.
In Duluth, the Red Kettle Christmas Campaign kicked off last weekend, Jamestown Salvation Army’s campaign kicks off today, and the rest of North Dakota and Minnesota will start bell ringing on Saturday, Nov. 21.
“We rely on the thousands of people who donate their time make our Red Kettle Campaign a success each year. We appreciate our volunteers so very much and it’s not too late to be a part of this season’s events,” said Col. Thomson.
Registering to bell ring is easy. If you live in Minnesota or North Dakota, you can register to ring online at a location near you. Simply sign up for the days and times you are available. Most locations request a two hour time commitment, but feel free to divide that up with a friend of family member.
On average, red kettles bring in $30 an hour, so the gift of your time adds up quickly, and bell ringers say the time flies by.
Please join The Salvation Army by volunteering or making a donation to support your local community today.
