It’s back: New edition of 100 notes of thanks
Last Thanksgiving, we posted a story about 100 thank you notes written by kids and adults served by The Salvation Army in Minnesota and North Dakota. It was some of the best received content of the past 12 months.
This Thanksgiving, we’ve secured another batch of 100 thank you notes – and they are just as touching as last year’s (read the letters).
If you supported The Salvation Army during the past year, you helped provide life-changing services for the people who wrote these notes.
Excerpts from the Notes
You provided a safe place for a little girl in inner-city St. Paul.
“Thank you for letting me come here after school while my mom works,” the girl wrote. “Thank you for feeding me. Thank you for having fun with me.”
You provided groceries for a woman in Williston, N.D.
“You help people with lower incomes to have good food,” she wrote. “Only after people have enough food can they start to think about all the other things.”
A husband and wife in Duluth, Minn., were happy to receive food as well.
“Our budget does not give us much leeway, so the food we receive really makes a difference,” they wrote. “Thank you for your kindness and generosity.”
A single mom in Grand Forks, N.D., was thankful to receive Christmas toys for her children.
“It is wonderful to know there are people in the world who spread the spirit of Christmas by making sure people have food and children have toys,” she wrote. “It is said that how we treat the lesser among us is how we treat God.”
A family from Jamestown, N.D., was equally thankful.
“People just do not understand how hard it is to make ends meet some months,” the family wrote. “Without services like yours, many people would go hungry.”
This Note Caught Our Eye
Another note from a Jamestown family caught our eye. It was written by a mother who had enrolled in our Pathway of Hope program, which provides long-term, one-on-one support for struggling families. Here is her entire note:
Thank you for having programs like Pathway of Hope that helped me get a budget in place for my family and learn ways to save money. My family had such a hard year, especially financially. The Salvation Army was there to help us not only with food and medicine, but with kindness and prayer. I have been so blessed by all who work at The Salvation Army office and the thrift store. I honestly don’t know how my family would have made it through this year. The programs The Salvation Army offers help those down on their luck to become stronger and to see a bright, hopeful light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you so much!
All of these thank you notes are a testament to the love and generosity of those who support The Salvation Army.
