It’s official: FoodShare Month a success
Thanks to donors like you, we are celebrating another successful Minnesota FoodShare Month campaign.
During the month of March, we challenged you to help support our food programs and meet the growing need in the Twin Cities and in Greater Minnesota (related story).
You responded in a big way. In the Twin Cities alone, we collected over $120,000 and you donated nearly 179,000 pounds of food.
The campaign inspired many of you, including an Edina woman who started her own grassroots movement within her community and ultimately collected over 830 pounds of food in a single month.
In Greater Minnesota, these donations come at a critical time for The Salvation Army, as demand at our food shelves only continues to grow:
“We get mega support around here for FoodShare month,” said Linda Loftis, Brainerd Salvation Army.
“These days, our food shelf is distributing three to four times more food,” explained Lieutenant Christina Wise, Virginia Salvation Army.
The food shelf program in Virginia has gone from distributing food to families once every three months to once every month. During the month of March, donations of more than $10,000 and nearly 10,000 pounds of food in Virginia alone will help to serve even more people in the community.
Thank you so very much for making March FoodShare month a success. Learn more about our volunteer opportunities, make a donation, or feel free to visit your local food shelf.
