People got a kick out of helping a local cause, the Douglas County Salvation Army, at an event in Alexandria Saturday.
Empower Boxing Alexandria, 1910 Aga Drive, celebrated its third anniversary with an open house and a Salvation Army Kick-Fest.
After learning how to kick properly, attendees had the chance to help raise money for The Salvation Army of Douglas County by kicking at Kick-Fest, a pledge-driven fundraiser. Every 25 cents donated in sponsorship of a kicker equated to one kick.
Organizers broke through their goal of raising at least $2,000 by generating 8,800 kicks for a total of $2,200.
The Salvation Army of Douglas County uses the tagline “Need Knows No Season.” Between helping to provide the fundamental needs of food, shelter and clothing, it also steps in to aid those who can’t heat their homes; need transportation, medication or help with life-altering bills; or need help getting to their place of employment.
In the past 12 months, the Douglas County Salvation Army has assisted nearly 3,500 residents, more than half of which are children. When it encounters needs greater than what it can fund, it partners with individual donors and partners to help those in crisis.
Please join The Salvation Army by volunteering or making a donation to support your local community.
