March Campaign: Satisfy your hunger to help
Hungry to make a difference?
Satisfy your appetite to help by supporting The Salvation Army during Minnesota’s largest food drive of the year – Minnesota FoodShare March Campaign. The campaign runs now through April 1, when all Minnesotans are encouraged to give to their local food shelves. (Help provide food to an individual or family in need right now when you give online.)
March is an especially important month for The Salvation Army Northern Division to receive food donations in Minnesota. (And, for that matter, our North Dakota locations as well.)
“Historically, March is when donations to The Salvation Army slow down,” said Lt. Col. Robert Thomson, leader of The Salvation Army of Minnesota and North Dakota. “But perhaps no other month is more critical for us to receive support. Our food shelves must stock up now before the school year ends because demand will be sky-high all summer long.”
The Salvation Army is one of the largest food providers in Minnesota. From International Falls to Albert Lea, we operate more than 20 food shelves that provide innovative food programs for thousands of families in need.
Here are three ways you can help:
- The most efficient way to support Salvation Army food shelves is to donate money. “Our partnerships with food distributors gives us triple the buying power,” Thomson said. “For every one bag of groceries you can buy at a store, we can buy at least three bags of groceries with the same amount of money.” See this in action in the video below.
- Donate nonperishable foods at your local Salvation Army worship and service center. For locations and hours, enter your ZIP code. [zipsearch][/zipsearch]
- Short on cash? No problem. Help by donating your time. We need volunteers to sort and stock donations at our food shelves. Learn more about becoming a Twin Cities food shelf volunteer. If you live outside the Twin Cities, contact The Salvation Army in your Greater Minnesota community.

For every view of the video below during March, Alerus Mortgage will generously give $1, up to $2,500 total, to our food programs. In just 30 seconds, you can help supply a pound of food to a person or family in need.
