National REALTOR® Ring Day started in the North
It’s been said, “Great things come from small beginnings.” The proverb couldn’t ring more true for The Salvation Army’s REALTOR® Ring Day, Friday, Dec. 5, 2014. The event started in North Dakota, one of the least populated states in the country, and has spread to 26 states with REALTORS® all raising money on a single day for The Salvation Army.
REALTOR® Ring Day was created to give real estate professionals an opportunity to support a cause that is dear to them, housing. Red Kettle donations support the Army’s housing facilities and in North Dakota and Minnesota that’s nearly 400,000 nights of shelter per year. Since its start in 2010, REALTORS® from across the country have been giving back to their communities.
“Every year the event continues to grow,” said Lt. Col. Robert Thomson, Commander of The Salvation Army Northern Division. “We are so appreciative of all the REALTORS® who spend their day supporting us and the good work we do.”
So far in 2014, more than 1,300 hours of bell ringing have been assigned in North Dakota and Minnesota, thanks to REALTORS® in both states.
“My goal this year is to raise $30,000 in our area,” said DeAnne Mason, REALTOR® and bell ringer in the Fargo-Moorhead area. “I’m on a mission, you can’t stop me.”
Mason’s mission is personal. A little more than twenty years ago she was a single mother and homeless. Finding it difficult to get by without money, food, and a place to stay, she found support at The Salvation Army and stays committed to return the favor.
If you cannot make it to a kettle on Friday, but would still like to donate you can give online.
