Nicholas David adds ‘Voice’ to CKC Good Food breakfast
The West 7th Salvation Army in St. Paul has discovered a new recipe for an outstanding breakfast:
- Piping-hot potatoes, sausage and waffles from CKC Good Food.
- One serving of famed soul singer Nicholas David (pictured, top).
Yesterday morning, catering company CKC Good Food graciously donated and prepared breakfast for 200-plus people at the West 7th Salvation Army, which serves a free hot breakfast every weekday (view photos or watch video below). CKC Good Food cooks nearly 25,000 meals per day for local charter and private schools.
“The Salvation Army has always been close to our hearts,” said CKC founder and CEO Nancy Close (pictured below). “As this company has grown, so has our focus on assisting nonprofits that are feeding the hungry.”
David – a St. Paul native and a finalist on season 3 of NBC’s “The Voice” – sang his heart out for 90 minutes in front of the guests.
“I wanted to serve here – it’s a privilege,” said David, who got connected with The Salvation Army at a coat drive in February. “I feel like my music has a medicinal, healing element to it. I want to keep bringing it to the people.”
Hunger is rising in Minnesota. Since 2009, the number of households coming to the Twin Cities Salvation Army for food shelf assistance has grown from about 21,000 families to nearly 28,000.
“The Salvation Army sincerely thanks CKC Good Food and Nicholas David for helping us battle hunger,” said Major Jeff Strickler, Twin Cities Salvation Army commander.
Join the fight by donating or volunteering. There’s no better time than now: It’s Minnesota FoodShare Month, the state’s largest food drive of the year.
