North Dakota: Be a ‘Giving Heart’ today, write a happy ending
Thursday, Feb. 11 is Giving Hearts Day in North Dakota – a day when you have an opportunity to write a happy ending, like this one.
On a cold December day, the phone at The Salvation Army began to ring after hours. Fortunately, a staff member was working late and answered the call. A young North Dakota mother was on the other end of the line.
She had recently started a new job, but was still three days away from receiving her first paycheck. The desperate mother and her 8-year-old son were living in her car in the dead of winter – no home, no food and no money for gas to warm the vehicle. Not knowing where else to turn, she called us. Within the hour, our worker arranged a place for the mother and child to stay and gave them a three-day supply of food.
Because of the support The Salvation Army receives from donors, we can give immediate basic needs help to those experiencing poverty. Your support Thursday on North Dakota’s Giving Hearts Day, allows us to write more happy endings like the one above.
