Now hiring counselors for Northwoods Camp
Calling all camp counselors: There may be snow on the ground, but it’s not too early to start thinking about landing a fun and exciting summer job at The Salvation Army Northwoods Camp in Finlayson, Minn.
Northwoods Camp is a Christian-based camp whose primary purpose is to share the message of Christ’s love with the campers. It’s an amazing place for kids to learn more about the outdoors, themselves and God.
The camp has lots of fun activities, starting with its private lakeshore and giant water park. The water park boasts a two-story waterslide, swimming lanes and splash park. On Elbow Lake, campers can fish, paddleboat and ride pontoon boats. Northwoods Camp also features outdoor sporting facilities such as a basketball court, lighted softball field, archery range, tennis court and volleyball court. If it rains, plenty of indoor activities are available, too.
“It’s not unusual for the counselors to enjoy camp as much as the campers themselves,” explained Captain Alisha Cho, Northwoods Camp administrator.
Counselors and campers also participate in daily devotions, Sunday worship services, and prayer before meals. Counselors are asked to lead grace before each meal. They are also asked to hold high moral, ethical and Christian standards and to model Christ in their approach to helping the children.
Counselor applications are being accepted now through March 1. Applications can be emailed to alisha_cho@usc.salvationarmy.org.
The need for counselors is greater this summer than in years past. Normally, camp counselors return year after year. But this summer, a larger-than-average number of former counselors will graduate from college and enter the workforce.
The typical counselor has already graduated from high school and either plans to attend college or currently attends, and is able to fully participate in the total camp program. Camp begins June 8 and runs through July 26.
