Officer wins cash on ‘Let’s Make a Deal’ TV gameshow

Apr 24, 2018

Major Nancy Mead of The Salvation Army Northern Division won $1,000 while competing on the CBS gameshow “Let’s Make a Deal.”

The show aired April 11 but was taped months ago, while Mead was in California visiting her best friend of 30 years.

“It was my friend’s idea to go on the show,” said Mead, who works as The Salvation Army’s director of multicultural ministries in Minnesota and North Dakota. “But I have always liked Let’s Make a Deal. My mom loved watching it when I was a kid, so it was fun to be on it for her.”

Nancy Mead dressed as Little Red Riding HoodThe show features an audience full of people wearing wacky costumes (Mead dressed as Little Red Riding Hood), some of whom get picked to make a deal with host Wayne Brady. Contestants who fail at their deal receive ridiculous prizes and are said to have gotten “zonked.”

Thankfully, Mead didn’t get zonked. She and another audience member participated in a challenge together and won $1,000 apiece.

Mead’s money hasn’t arrived yet, and she doesn’t yet know how she’ll spend it.

“All I know for sure is that I’ll be tithing part of it,” she said with a laugh.

Mead enjoyed meeting Brady, a famous actor, singer and TV personality who in the early 2000s gained fame on the ABC improvisational show “Whose Line is it Anyway?”

“It was a wonderful opportunity to speak with him,” Mead said. “He’s super sharp and friendly, and really funny. He made everyone on the show feel like a star.”

Above all, Mead enjoyed spending time with her best friend during such a unique experience.

“When you’ve had a friend for so long,” Mead said, “you just never know what hidden and unexpected blessings will come your way. This was definitely one of those blessings.”
