Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services Team to support flood fight in Fargo/Moorhead
EDS volunteers to provide meals during Sandbag Central effort
FARGO, ND – Local Salvation Army disaster services volunteers are preparing to support the community in the 2020 Red River flood response. On Tuesday, March 10th, the Emergency Disaster Services team will begin supporting operations at Sandbag Central in Fargo, whose goal is to fill 400,000 sandbags. The Salvation Army will be on-site to provide meals, snacks and hydration for all volunteers.
“As the community has a need, we seek to meet it as best we can,” said Andrew Lynch, Incident Commander for The Salvation Army’s response in Cass and Clay Counties. “We’ve gotten very good at flood response over the past few major spring floods.”
Last year, The Salvation Army, along with the American Red Cross, served 4 full days at the sandbag filling operations on both sides of the river. Over 1,800 meals were served, along with over 4,000 snacks handed out to volunteers.
Sandbag Central, located at 2301 8th Ave. N. in Fargo, is currently scheduled to be operating from 7am to 7pm on Tuesday, March 10 through Friday, March 13. If you’d like to support The Salvation Army’s flood relief efforts in Cass and Clay counties, donate online here.
