Salvation Army supports ‘StandDown for Veterans’
Roseville, Minn. – Veterans experiencing homelessness and other challenges are invited to Fort Snelling on Tuesday, Aug. 2 and Wednesday, Aug. 3 to receive support with everything from finding housing, to free legal and medical care – even haircuts.
The StandDown for Veterans event is presented by the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans and was modeled after the StandDown concept used during the Vietnam War to provide a safe retreat for units returning from combat operations.
The Salvation Army’s mobile kitchens will be there serving breakfast to hundreds of people. For the third year in a row, Cub Foods is donating 700 donuts and 700 bottles of juice for the event.
The McDonald’s Twin Cities Co-Op Owner Operators are also donating 450 McDonald’s breakfast sandwiches for the event.
Salvation Army representatives will be on hand to provide veterans with information about supportive housing programs and other resources available in the Twin Cities.
“We are proud to support our veterans and thank them for their service to our country,” said Lt. Col. Lonneal Richardson, Divisional Commander. “The Salvation Army has a long history of providing services to veterans and we are honored to be a part of this important event.”
StandDown for Veterans, sponsored by the Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans, will be held at Fort Snelling, at 201 Bloomington Rd, St. Paul.
