Six ways to help Rescue Christmas

Dec 2, 2020

The COVID-19 crisis has jeopardized Christmas for thousands of families in Minnesota and North Dakota. The Salvation Army Northern Division is serving more people than ever, at a time when Christmas donations could drop sharply.

There is something you can do: Support The Salvation Army and help Rescue Christmas for people and families most in need.

Here are six great ways to partner with The Salvation Army and help Rescue Christmas for those in crisis:

Donate online: Give a one-time donation or become a monthly giver. No gift amount is too small.

Walmart Round Up Campaign: Now through Dec. 31, customers at participating Walmart stores can round up their purchases to the nearest dollar and donate the difference to The Salvation Army. Customers can do this in stores at cash registers, on Walmart.com, or through the Walmart app. Learn more about The Salvation Army’s partnership with Walmart.

Free floor decals: Individuals, businesses, churches, and other organizations can order free floor decals that encourage people to help Rescue Christmas while they social distance. Each decal asks supporters to make a donation to The Salvation Army by texting “RESCUE” to 24365 – a number that symbolizes our commitment to service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Be a bell ringer: Volunteer bell ringers are desperately needed weekdays and Saturdays from now until Christmas Eve. Bell ringing is a safe fundraising activity that now includes enhanced social distancing and sanitization measures, with Apple Pay and Google Pay options for touchless giving. Sign up to ring bells

GLOW Holiday Festival: Minnesota’s newest holiday lights display features a mile-long drive with over a million lights, illuminated trees, art installations, and more at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds. Tickets purchased Wednesday, Dec. 9 and Thursday, Dec. 10 include a $2 donation to The Salvation Army Booth Brown House youth shelter in St. Paul. Donations of new, unwrapped toys will be accepted at the event Dec. 9-12.

Start an online fundraiser: Raise money for people in need with little effort and without leaving your home. Simply create an online fundraising page, send it to your friends and family, and encourage them to help you Rescue Christmas for people in need.

Enlist in Love’s Army by giving a donation or ringing bells at a red kettle. Your gifts of time and money will help Rescue Christmas for people and families struggling to get through the pandemic.
