Thank you, first responders

Jan 6, 2023

The Salvation Army Northern Division is proud to support police officers, firefighters, and other first responders who keep our communities safe in Minnesota and North Dakota.

Our Emergency Disaster Services staff and volunteers have been providing food, hydration, and emotional and spiritual care for first responders for nearly 125 years. Last year, we served first responders at more than 8,400 disaster sites around the country.

Locally, we have served first responders at every major flood, fire or other disaster that has occurred throughout the decades – from the 35W bridge collapse, to historic flooding in Fargo, to the 2011 North Minneapolis tornado, and much more.

Every year, we salute first responders on National Donut Day – held the first Friday of June. The Salvation Army started National Donut Day in 1938 to commemorate the work of “Donut Girls” – female Salvation Army volunteers who served American soldiers battling on the frontlines of war.

Today, the donut serves as a symbol of the comfort that The Salvation Army provides to those in need and the service we provide to first responders as they protect our country and communities.

Please join The Salvation Army by giving a donation or signing up to volunteer. With your help, we can show families in need that there is Love Beyond their most difficult hardships.
