TobyMac, fans support The Salvation Army at Minneapolis concert

Mar 9, 2020

Popular Christian hip hop artist TobyMac and his fans gave The Salvation Army a boost during the singer’s March 7 concert at Target Center in Minneapolis.

Concertgoers opened the evening by donating more than 1,500 hats, scarves, mittens, and other winter wear – an effort made possible by KTIS 98.5. The Salvation Army will distribute the items at our nearby Harbor Light Center homeless outreach facility, which houses about 500 people every night.

On stage, TobyMac presented The Salvation Army with a check for $2,000 on behalf of the Awakening Foundation. The donation will support The Salvation Army’s Aftercare Support program for men and women who have recently been released from prison.

“We are grateful to TobyMac, his fans, and the Awakening Foundation for supporting The Salvation Army and the people we serve,” said Captain Bersabe Vera, Salvation Army Divisional Secretary (pictured, second from right).

The Aftercare Support program provides food, clothing, spiritual guidance, mentoring, and other services that are invaluable to men and women struggling to survive life after incarceration. The program is led by Salvation Army staff and volunteers, including John Foster, a Salvation Army employee who spent much of his life in prison.

“I’m humbled by how God is taking all of my bad experiences and poor choices and using them for His glory,” said Foster, Prison Reentry Coordinator for The Salvation Army Northern Division’s prison ministry team. (Read Foster's miraculous testimony.)

All are welcome to attend Aftercare Support meetings, held Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at the North Minneapolis Salvation Army, 2024 Lyndale Ave. N.

TobyMac’s donation is part of $200,000 worth of gifts being given across the country during his Hits Deep 2020 tour, on behalf of Awakening Events, KLOVE, Altrua HealthShare, and Food for the Hungry
