In celebration of Volunteer Appreciation Month this past April, the Salvation Army of Northwest Indiana extends its heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteers who tirelessly serve their communities. Among these remarkable individuals are Angela Cortez and Tommy Miller, whose unwavering commitment and passion for service exemplify the spirit of altruism.
Cortez, a devoted volunteer at the East Chicago corps since 2011, finds her inspiration in the sense of belonging fostered by the Salvation Army.
"Being part of the church here at the Salvation Army and knowing that I am 'saved to serve'" fuels Cortez's dedication to giving back, she said.
Her fondest memories revolve around her involvement in Vacation Bible School, where she has witnessed the transformative power of community and faith firsthand.
Miller's journey with the Salvation Army began at the tender age of 5, as he joined his parents in volunteering at the Gary/Merrillville Corps during bell-ringing events. Over the years, his involvement deepened, and he has been volunteering at the Porter County Corps since 1997. Miller's giving spirit shines brightly as he reflects on his motivation to serve.
