You’ve probably seen news coverage of long lines at food banks and pantries around the country. Here in Nebraska, South Dakota and western Iowa, we are experiencing much the same. Food banks are running low on basic supplies and meal programs are stretched thin.

At The Salvation Army in Grand Island, Nebraska, for instance, Lt. Liza Ayala has seen five times the typical number of visitors to the corps’ food pantry, and attendance at the daily community meals has doubled.

In Mitchell, South Dakota, The Salvation Army recently partnered with Dakota Wesleyan University and other local agencies to distribute 600 food boxes to people in need.

And in Omaha, the food pantry at The Salvation Army’s Burrows Center has struggled to keep shelves stocked.

Your gift today to The Salvation Army through the #GivingTuesdayNow campaign will help us stock food pantry shelves and keep meal programs running across our three-state area. And with unemployment at record levels, we anticipate need will only increase in the coming weeks and months, which means your gift will help us offer financial assistance to offset rent, utilities and other costs for those who most need it.

Rest-assured, your donation stays local to help those most impacted by this devastating public health and economic crisis.

For more than 150 years, The Salvation Army has helped people recover from tough situations. We’re no stranger to being on the front lines during times of crisis. Our commitment to serving along with your generosity ensures we can continue to do good, even in times of crisis.

Thank you for helping us make a difference today!
