The Salvation Army Family Services offer help to those in need in the Peoria tri-county area through several programs and services.
A 40 bed emergency shelter at the Family Services Center at 417 NE Adams in Peoria provides temporary housing for women, children, and intact families. The housing specialist and case workers work together with families to help them break the cycle of dependency by finding affordable permanent housing. Nutrition, budgeting, and other self-help programs are offered. Residents with children are enrolled in our Pathway of Hope, a self-sufficiency program.
Other services provided here include our emergency food pantry, rent assistance, referral services, job training opportunities, seasonal assistance and more.
The Sylvia Fites Family Services Center
The Sylvia Fites Center, at 414 NE Jefferson in Peoria houses the "Lunch with Love" program, which provides a free noon meal Monday throught Friday for those in need of a hot nutritious lunch. Approximately 200 meals are served daily in our building, with additional quantities delivered to other feeding programs.
The Fites Center is also the home to the Safety Net program, which includes the overnight Safety Net Shelter for homeless men, providing a safe environment and a sack lunch to those who stay each night. The men also are engaged in case-management to assist with finding more permanent housing and other needs.
