The Salvation Army Received a $10,000 Grant from

Ameren Illinois to Provide Hands-On Learning

The Salvation Army received a $10,000 grant from Ameren Illinois to support outdoor activities and field trips for children enrolled in their Child Care Center which provides affordable, quality childcare and education for low-income families in Peoria.

The Child Care Center is available to children aged six weeks to five years and is nationally accredited through the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). The additional activities funded by this grant will help The Salvation Army improve the educational experiences of children by connecting students with the real world and giving them access to tools that are not available at school.

"The children at our Child Care Center often don't get opportunities for recreational experiences that are tied to a cost," said Major Jesse Collins, Tri-County Divisional Commander at The Salvation Army. "We are excited that Ameren Illinois is helping us enrich their lives by offering excellent learning opportunities and memories that will last a lifetime."

The grant funds were awarded through the Ameren Cares program, which connects Ameren Illinois with the communities it serves through charitable giving and volunteering. In 2019, Ameren Illinois donated more than $3 million to non-profit organizations in its service territory.

“It's very beneficial for a child to take advantage of a real world learning environment, especially if it's something they may not otherwise have the chance to do," said Brian Brackney, division director for Ameren Illinois. "We hope these children can take away experiences that help them learn and grow."
