More Than "Thank You"
It is a blessing to meet the Men & Women who have served/continue to serve our Nation's freedom throughout our communities. The Salvation Army stands ready to meet all Veterans in need by offering services & programs that work to say more than "Thank You". When they feel forgotten, lost or even just looking for temporary support - we are there to extended a loving hand to the Heroes who have bravely stood for us.
Some of the ways that Veterans are met all around our Division include:
- Homeless Prevention
- Cases Management/Social Work & Guidance
- Utility & Transportation Assistance
- Rehabilitation/Medical Needs Support
- Resource Referral & Connections
More than these specialized services though, The Salvation Army takes every opportunity to meet our Veterans in any way possible. One of the more unique ways we do this is through the local Honor Flight Initiative. This program works to help Veterans fly to Washington D.C. in order to see the Memorials dedicated to their selflessness and bravery. Over 1,600 Veterans have been flown just in the Greater Peoria Area alone, all at no cost to them. The Salvation Army is happy to provide food, drinks & our prayer as the flights depart. By simply being able to be a part of this amazing program we hear moving stories & meet the Heroes behind them! The same local support we receive for our Veterans outreach is the same dedication from you that makes Honor Flights possible. Thank you to all who make, not just our work, but all the local Veterans support possible; and we pray that this work says more than Thank You to the brave men & women who we help for their awe-inspiring courage. The freedom of our lives is protected by their service and so they will always have our deepest gratitude and praise, every chance we get to show it!.
