The Salvation Army Received a $10,000 Grant
from Ameren Illinois to Provide Food for People in Need
Peoria, IL – The Salvation Army received a $10,000 grant from Ameren Illinois to support feeding programs for people facing food insecurity in Peoria. The money donated by Ameren will provide groceries for 100 families in our community and will provide 2,500 meals for moms, dads and children who seek shelter at The Salvation Army.
In Peoria County, 11.4% of our community lacks adequate access to food and 15.6% of our children face food insecurity. One in nine children go to bed hungry. Sadly, we see more families in Peoria who are in crisis and face the impossible choice of paying to keep the lights on or buying food to feed their families.
"We are blessed to have the support of Ameren Illinois to help us provide food for so many local people in need," said Major Heath Sells, Peoria Area Commander at The Salvation Army.
The grant funds were awarded through the Ameren Cares program, which connects Ameren Illinois with the communities it serves through charitable giving and volunteering.
