Tree of Lights Appreciation - 2020
The Salvation Army is hugely grateful for the generous support our Holiday Fundraising efforts received from the Peoria area community members. All of your volunteering, donating, bell ringing & other forms of support are working right now to assist local neighbors in need - Thank You to everyone who joined us in the movement to #RescueChristmas!
The 2020 Tree of Lights campaign has reached 86% of its total goal with just over $1.4 million raised. We hope to raise the additional funds & reach the $1.65 million goal which will support the increased needs in our community brought on by COVID-19 impacts. These efforts will continue January 31.
“We are very blessed to be able to help those people who can’t put food on their tables; who have nowhere to lay their head at night; and who haven’t been working throughout the pandemic and can’t pay their bills. We can only do this work because of the generosity of those individuals and businesses who join us in making a real impact for people in need.” - Major Jesse Collins, Tri-County Commander
Major Heath Sells, officer for The Salvation Army Peoria Citadel, added, “As of December 28, the Red Kettles have raised 93% of their goal with just over $17,000 needed to reach it. While the kettles are no longer at the stores, donations can still be made by mail or online if you would like to make a contribution.”
The money donated to The Salvation Army in Peoria stays in the community to help people locally who are struggling with emergencies, life challenges, or simply looking for assistance to get out of poverty.
Eight-five cents of every dollar goes directly to providing programs and services.
“We have seen an overall increase in services requested this year,” continued Major Collins. “We anticipate the need to continue to grow, which is why we are asking for your help to reach our fundraising goal as we work together to do the most good.”
