CHARLEVOIX COUNTY COMMUNITY FOUNDATION AWARDS THE SALVATION ARMY OF PETOSKEY $30,000 FOR THE PATHWAY OF HOPE PROGRAM
And An Additional $5,304 In Emergency Financial Assistance For Residents Of Charlevoix County
PETOSKEY, MI. (October 29, 2021) – The Salvation Army of Petoskey received generous support through the Charlevoix County Community Foundation for their Pathway of Hope (POH) program. Pathway of Hope (POH); a nationwide Salvation Army initiative, provides enhanced services to families with children desiring to take action to break the cycle of crisis and intergenerational poverty. POH is a collaborative approach utilizing existing Salvation Army and community resources to provide strengths-based case management services.
POH families are provided a comprehensive support system of services and care as a means to break intergenerational cycles of poverty through other means to overcome barriers to success. Success is measured by a family’s progression through the program via obtaining small goals and milestones, stabilized housing, reduction of barriers, increased hope, reduction of dependency on Salvation Army and other community resources, improved finances, and may also develop strong community and spiritual ties.
A prior pilot program that was launched by The Salvation Army on a national level demonstrated a significant impact on families and communities. 90% of the programs first 260 families completed an initial needs and goals assessment. 74% of the families who fully engaged in the program demonstrated increased stability.
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation provided a $30,000.00 grant to ensure Charlevoix County families have the support they need to combat immediate financial emergencies and go on to achieve their goals through its Urgent Needs Fund for the Community. This allows enrolled families to stabilize their situations so they are then able to focus on achieving their goals and also helps reduce or prevent future financial emergencies through education. In addition to the POH award, a second award of $5,304 was given to support emergency financial needs for all individuals and families who are struggling in Charlevoix County. Examples of emergency financial needs are heat, electricity, rent, auto repair and much more.
The Charlevoix County Community Foundation is a local charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for all citizens of Charlevoix County by building permanent endowment, addressing needs through grant making, and providing leadership resources to serve the community.
