CHRISTMAS IN JULY CAMPAIGN RAISES OVER $6,000 TO HELP MANY STRUGGLING WITH FINANCIAL CHALLENGES CAUSED BY COVID-19
August 3, 2020, Petoskey, MI- The Salvation Army, Petoskey Corps kicked off the Christmas in July Red Kettle Campaign on Friday, July 3, 2020. Those who came out to Oleson’s Food Store listened to some great country music provided by Susan Melton from 102.9 Big Country while having cookies and punch; courtesy of Oleson’s.
Although our Christmas in July’s Red Kettle Campaign had fewer locations throughout Emmet, Charlevoix and Antrim counties; the Christmas spirit was evident through the many kind and generous neighbors who donated and volunteered to ring the bell this year. In Petoskey, Beard’s Brewery matched the first $500 that was put into the Oleson’s Red Kettle; while, the Petoskey “Sunset” Rotary spent the entire day ringing outside of JC Penny. In Elk Rapids, the Rotary Club kicked off the morning while the Lion’s Club covered the rest of the day.
“We have been blessed with a tremendous outpouring of caring neighbors and partner organizations since the beginning of the pandemic quarantine who have donated not only financially, but also have donated their time to help us reach out and enable us to care for our most vulnerable folks” says Envoy, Greg Irwin. “Since March 16, 2020, The Salvation Army has delivered 8000 hot meals to Seniors, Homeless and Mobility Impaired individuals, and delivered 1000 boxes of fresh produce, groceries, and frozen meat to low-income rental communities. We are now supplying community lunches two days a week and continue to provide emergency financial and other types of assistance including food pantry via phone appointments”.
