Salvation Army Chicago Area Commander Honored as a Notable Leader in philanthropy.
CHICAGO, IL (June 2, 2025) — The Salvation Army is pleased to announce that Major Caleb Senn, Chicago Area Commander, has been named one of Crain’s Chicago Business 2025 Notable Leaders in Philanthropy.
Born into The Salvation Army as a child of Salvation Army officers, Major Senn was commissioned an officer in The Salvation Army in 2005. Senn served in Detroit and Flint, Michigan, before being assigned to Oakbrook Terrace in 2018. He began his current assignment as Chicago Area Commander in 2022.
This recognition comes at a pivotal moment for Major Senn and The Salvation Army. Demand for services has never been greater, yet rising program costs and shrinking funding sources are making it more difficult to meet the need. As the largest non-governmental provider of social services in Chicago, The Salvation Army is relying on public support now more than ever to care for the city’s most vulnerable residents.
“The Salvation Army has been in Chicago for 140 years – and no matter how difficult things get, we’re not going anywhere,” Senn said. “It’s not just about meeting needs, but transforming lives by meeting our neighbors where they are with care and dignity. It’s an incredible privilege to Do the Most Good in this community, and we take that very seriously.”
The Salvation Army’s unwavering commitment is to extend love and assistance to anyone hungry, homeless, or hurting, fostering a community of inclusivity and compassion. “I want people to understand just how deep the transformative work of The Salvation Army is,” Senn said.
With 82 cents of every dollar dedicated to directly supporting the needs of the community in which it is given, The Salvation Army is committed to stewarding every donation with integrity. We provide these services to people in need throughout Greater Chicagoland and Northern Illinois — all with the goal of Doing the Most Good.
The Salvation Army’s capacity to provide services at our 6,400 locations relies heavily on the generosity of the American public and the support of government funds. Significant changes in either could impact our ability to serve nearly 27 million people in the US who seek access to food, shelter, or other necessities.
