VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COMMUNITY PROGRAMS

May 31, 2023

The Salvation Army of Omaha is looking for a few good volunteers to help staff a number of our community-focused programs. Please read on below for all the details.

Thanks for your interest and support!

Food Pantry Assistant

We are looking for energetic and friendly individuals to assist in our pantry at our Burrows Center at 61st and NW Radial Hwy. From escorting and assisting program participants through the food pantry to unloading and organizing deliveries, there are multiple ways you can help. This is a fun way to meet new people and support our community.

This is an opportunity you can try once or commit to for the long term. You can even gather up a few friends or coworkers and register as a group for a day of rewarding service! Ideal candidates are comfortable with standing, walking, and bending -- and are able to lift 20-30 pounds. Youth ages 16 and older can volunteer without an adult present, with a guardian permission form on file.

Shift Schedule: M, T, THR, F/9-12 and 1-4

Welcome Home Crew (3 options)

  1. Welcome Home-Clean and Cozy Crew ( 2nd Wednesday of the month 1 p.m.-3 p.m.)

We all deserve the feeling of being welcome in our place of residence, and you can help create that feeling for people in need here in the metro.

Through our community support and veterans’ programs, The Salvation Army provides safe independent living environments and stability for those in need. Before a new resident moves in to our housing units, we want their new place to feel warm and welcoming.

As part of the Clean and Cozy Crew, you'll make the apartment shine with some light cleaning and organization before a new resident arrives. We also need your decorator's touch. You'll get to use items provided from a Welcome Basket such as décor items, linens, and notes of encouragement to fill the space with warmth. We will have all supplies needed on-site.

This opportunity is best for adults 18 and older. We need your help on the second Wednesday of each month for this activity. The location for this activity is our midtown campus at 3612 Cuming St.

  1. Welcome Home-Calling All Artists (2nd Thursday of the month 5 p.m.-7 p.m.)

We will have guided art sessions once a month and your completed artwork will remain at the apartments for residents to admire and enjoy. We will have supplies on hand, so no need to bring anything but a positive attitude and your own sense of creativity.

This opportunity is best for adults 18 and older; however, with an adult present, youth can take part in this as well. We need your help on the second Thursday of each month for this activity. The location for this activity is our midtown campus at 3612 Cuming St.

  1. Welcome Home-Welcome Basket Creators (2nd Saturday of the month 9 a.m.-11 a.m.)

As the Welcome Home Basket Creator, you will put together baskets of housewarming items for new residents. Linens, cleaning supplies, decorations, notes of encouragement—we have it all on site and ready for you to organize. Our Cleaning and Cozy Crew will place the completed baskets in the apartments when new residents are scheduled to move in.

This opportunity is best for adults 18 and older; however, with an adult present, youth can assist. We need your help on the second Saturday of each month for this activity. The location for this activity is our midtown campus at 3612 Cuming St.
