Blessed Beginnings: New Backpacks for the School Year

Aug 22, 2023

Throughout the month of August, The Salvation Army Food Pantry has been providing new backpacks to the families it serves. Each backpack is filled with essential school supplies and adorned with a special tag and written blessing. The words are a whispered prayer and gentle reminder that these young minds are cherished and protected, both in school and at home.

"Lord, Bless this backpack and the child carrying it. May they be guided by Your love in the classroom and at home. May they feel Your love in everything they do, now and always. Amen."

Approximately 200 children will receive backpacks, a gift that will accompany them as they step into the new school year. Many families, often struggling to make ends meet, have expressed their sincere appreciation for the kind gesture and The Salvation Army’s continued support.

As staff and volunteers distributed the bags and took pictures, one parent shared a sentiment that resonated deeply. The mother confided that the experience was extra special because a family photo was captured—something that had not happened in a very long time. The simple act of capturing a moment of togetherness, happiness, and enthusiasm for the school year overwhelmed the mother with gratitude. It’s a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a profound impact.

As the new school year begins, we hope these backpacks will carry not only school supplies but also blessings for the future. With every step these young minds take, let them be reminded of the community's belief in them, the love that surrounds them, and the path of potential they tread—one blessed step at a time.
