Celebrating the Heart of Our Mission
On Tuesday, May 13, during National Salvation Army Week, The Salvation Army of Winnebago County hosted a special Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon to recognize and celebrate the hundreds of selfless individuals who give their time, energy, and compassion in service to others.
Held in a spirit of gratitude and fellowship, the event featured a lively Taco Bar lunch and remarks by Major Monty Wandling, who led the afternoon in honoring the many volunteers who support The Salvation Army's mission.
The luncheon served as a reminder that volunteers are truly the heart and hands of The Salvation Army. Over the past year, they have consistently shown up — in all seasons and circumstances — to meet the needs of their neighbors. From stocking shelves in the food pantry to ringing bells in the cold and distributing coats and Christmas toys, these volunteers have been the embodiment of hope in action.
Together, these volunteers exemplify what it means to serve with heart. Their work may vary, but the impact is united — making hope tangible across Winnebago County.
The Salvation Army of Winnebago County was honored to present special recognitions to individuals and organizations whose service went above and beyond this past year:

“To every volunteer, award recipient, and partner — thank you,” Major Wandling concluded. “Your generosity has brought more than just food, toys, or coats. It has brought dignity, comfort, and hope to those who need it most.”
As we look to the future, The Salvation Army remains committed to meeting the needs of our community with the help of the extraordinary people who make that mission possible. This luncheon was a moment to pause, reflect, and say a heartfelt thank you to those who walk alongside us in service.
