Providing Relief after Flooding

Aug 19, 2024

On July 13 and 14, Winnebago County was struck by heavy rains, leading to widespread flooding across the region. Many residents were left grappling with the destruction of their property and the upheaval of their daily lives. In the face of such adversity, the resilience of the Winnebago County community shone brightly, with local organizations and volunteers rallying to offer much-needed aid.

In the aftermath of the flooding, a group of local organizations swiftly coordinated efforts to establish an emergency shelter at Forest City Church in Rockford. Over the course of two days, The Salvation Army played a crucial role at the shelter, serving hot meals to those affected by the flooding. This was made possible by the generous support of local businesses, including Chick-fil-A,  Texas Roadhouse, Cracker Barrel, Leno's, and The Machine Shed, who provided the food.

With the help of volunteers, The Salvation Army also distributed over 200 flood cleanup kits to families throughout the affected areas. Packed with essential supplies, these kits were a vital resource for residents as they began cleaning and restoring their homes.

The Salvation Army of Winnebago County is unwavering in its commitment to supporting the community. Its prayers and support are with everyone affected by the flooding as the county continues to rebuild. The Salvation Army will continue to stand by the community, offering assistance and resources as needed.
