Serving Unity and Community Spirit at National Night Out
In the heart of Rockford, Illinois, the spirit of unity and community resonated on the evening of August 1, 2023. Residents gathered for National Night Out, an annual event aimed at fostering police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. The City Market Pavilion was transformed into a hub of excitement and connection, offering a multitude of engaging activities—including live entertainment, K9 demonstrations, and plenty of giveaways.
Everything at the event was free to the public, including the food. Partnering with the Rockford Police Department, The Salvation Army offered hotdogs, snacks, Icees, and more. Majors Monty and Angela Wandling joined the Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) team in the bustling Canteen. Amid the flurry of activity, they served approximately 800 meals throughout the span of three hours. The lines for food flowed seamlessly, a testament to the precision and care that underpinned the event.
Members of The Salvation Army's Development and Social Services team were also on hand to distribute school supplies and backpack tags. Each tag was adorned with a special blessing for the child and the upcoming school year.
National Night Out was a huge success with an impressive turnout from the community. From bike giveaways to a dunk tank and bouncy house, the Rockford Police Department orchestrated a night full of togetherness and family fun. The Salvation Army was blessed to play a pivotal role in the event, serving food and fellowship and supporting local law enforcement.
Through a blend of fun, camaraderie, and a touch of giving, the evening captured the very essence of community.
