Marshalltown Salvation Army Back in Business at Community Center Building

Aug 8, 2018

The Salvation Army of Marshalltown, Iowa, is back home again.

Leadership recently announced that local operations have been moved out of their temporary base at the local Salvation Army Thrift Store and back into the organization’s community center building at 107 W. State St. The center had been temporarily closed for repairs in the wake of the July 19 tornado that damaged nearly 800 buildings in the central Iowa town.

Storm-relief efforts continue in Marshalltown and surrounding communities. Here’s the latest:

  • People who were affected by the tornado but have not yet received financial disaster-related assistance can visit the community center from 9 a.m. - noon and 1 - 4 p.m. through Friday, August 10, to receive help.
  • The Corps Community Center continues to take donations of food, toiletries, diapers, wipes and formula. Staff are expecting a large-scale donation of these items to arrive soon and will inform the public as to when distribution will take place.
  • Donations of furniture, household goods and clothes can be delivered to The Salvation Army Thrift Store at 232 N. 13th St.
  • The Marshalltown food box program has resumed operation at the community center. Food is distributed at 1 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
  • Monetary donations for tornado relief can be made at donate.salarmywestern.org/iowatornadoes.
