The Salvation Army of Traverse City Holiday program helps struggling families provide Christmas gifts to their children ages 17 and younger as of December 25, 2021, as well as bring families together around the table with holiday food baskets regardless of age.

Online Holiday Assistance Registration has been extented until DECEMBER 3.  
Registration for Food Only Christmas Food Baskets please call for a registration appointment - 231-946-4644.

Out of an abundance of caution for everyone’s health and safety we are using the Angel Tree program for registration. The Angel Tree program will ask for additional information on children’s needs, wishes, and favorites as toys and gifts will be selected and prepacked by The Salvation Army team and volunteers for pick-up. Children under 13 years of age will not be adopted. Teens 13-17 yrs. as of 12/25/2021 may be adopted through the Teen Angel program.

*Applications submitted online are not considered complete until they have been reviewed, followed up, and approved by The Salvation Army Holiday Assistance administration team. Sign-up for Thanksgiving or Christmas Food Baskets will happen during the confirmation call for those participating in the holiday assistance program.

  • Households that have not applied for holiday assistance elsewhere.

  • Serving residents of Grand Traverse, Leelanau, and Benzie Counties

WHAT assistance is available?

  • Thanksgiving or Christmas Food Basket

  • Christmas Toys and Gifts (children ages infant -17)

HOW do I qualify for assistance?

  • Families up to the 150 percentile of the 2020 federal poverty level are eligible for assistance.   

WHERE can I apply?

  • This year families with children can apply online or in person.
  • Families and households applying for food baskets only must apply in person. 
  • *Applications submitted online are not considered complete until they have been reviewed, followed up, and approved by The Salvation Army Holiday Assistance administration team. You will receive a follow-up call to review your application and confirm approval. During this call, you can register for a Thanksgiving or Christmas Food Basket and be assigned a pickup time.  

WHEN and WHERE can I apply?

You NEED an email address and a phone number that we can get in contact with you for further communications for the online application. 

BEFORE YOU START YOUR APPLICATION: Before you start your application for Angel Tree Christmas assistance, please have your documents uploaded on your computer or on your phone in these allowable file types: .jpeg, .jpg, png, csv (excel), doc and docx (word document) and pdf.  You can upload documents from scanned copies on your computer or photos on your phone.

Required Documentation:  
Picture ID for all household members ages 18 and up is required 
Proof of current physical address (An ID or piece of mail)
One ID for EACH child being registered that shows their proof of birth date - (Examples: Birth Certificate, Shot Record, or School Record). *Social Security Cards not accepted

Required Verification of Income:
Verification of income is required; it must display all household income for last 30 days.
(Paystubs – if no income DHHS award letters
 Tax forms or a bank statement is acceptable to verify the income for the self-employed

No Invitation Code is needed. You will need to enter your address zip code to enter the application. To be eligible for assistance from The Salvation Army Traverse City only zip codes for residents living in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, and Benzie counties will process.

At any time if you do not have specific information required on the application, you must put a 0 (zero) in the block or you cannot go to the next page of the application.

Please have the following information available to make the online application go smoothly: Child/Teens needs, wishes, favorites, interests, sizes. 
*Gift card idea - drop down will only show for children 12 and up.  

At the end of the application, it will ask for signatures - the head of household applying must sign. You may put an X in the other signature boxes. 

Online applications have been extended through December 3.

Thanksgiving Community Meal: 

The Salvation Army invites the community to join them in friendship, fellowship, and Thanksgiving during The Salvation Army Thanksgiving Community Meal, Wednesday, November 24, 2021.

A traditional Thanksgiving meal with all the fixings will be served To-Go from Food Trucks.

Time: 11:00 am- 2:00 pm

Christmas Community Meal: 

The Salvation Army invites the community to join them for their Christmas Community Meal on Wednesday, December 22, 2021. A traditional Christmas meal will be served To-Go from Food Trucks. 

Come one; come all in celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ and the gift of friendship and fellowship.
