Tri-City Corps teams up with Blue Goose Market for second Doughnut Day Eating Contest
The Salvation Army Tri-City Corps held its second doughnut-eating contest on National Doughnut Day to raise funds for, and awareness of the organization's work in the community. From 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Friday, June 7th, contestants gathered to compete at host and sponsor, Blue Goose Market. Ron Onesti, CEO of The Arcada served as Master of Ceremonies.
Captain Betsy awarded The Tri-City Exchange Club with the People’s Choice Award for raising the most money online – $1,075.
Steve Siwy, a paramedic from The Saint Charles Fire Department took home the Most Doughnuts Eaten Award for eating the most doughnuts in five minutes – 8 in total.
Alfie Moreno, a 3.5-year-old Jack Russell Terrier, who enjoyed doggy doughnuts, won the Nothing But Dough Award for raising the most money during the contest - $250.
The contest brought in over $3,000 and will fund hunger alleviation programs in Batavia, Geneva, Saint Charles, and Central Kane County. Over 300 families are served on a monthly basis at the client-choice food pantry, open Monday thru Friday. The Corps also distributes bread and other fresh items from local retailers (including Blue Goose), farmers, and bakeries on Tuesdays and Fridays to those in need.
