Equipping Students for Success

Jul 19, 2021

The Salvation Army offers a variety of programs to help children reach their full potential. One of the ways we contribute to their growth is by providing school supplies, so students begin the year with all the essential tools they need. Our goal is to prepare children for long-term educational success, which is important to break the cycle of poverty.

Due to the current public health crisis, many families are experiencing financial insecurity. This fall it will be even more difficult for them to purchase school supplies. We believe families should not have to choose between paying a utility bill, or purchasing pencils, folders, and crayons. By fundraising and hosting school supply donation events, The Salvation Army helps alleviate this financial burden for needy families.

Not all students have the same opportunities to learn and grow, especially those living in underserved neighborhoods. When students receive new supplies during our back-to-school initiatives, they experience a feeling of ownership that helps build their confidence and ability to function in the classroom. It leads to improved grades and behavior, too.

Additionally, teachers are known for spending their own money to purchase supplies when budgets fall short. We work to remove that burden for them. The Salvation Army understands that when a learning environment is properly resourced, teachers can focus on what they do best—sharing knowledge and skills with their students.

Schools play an important role in preparing children to reach their full potential as productive, caring, and responsible citizens. As their education level goes up, so do their employment opportunities and salary. This leads to future happiness and financial security.

Educated people understand how valuable it is to live in a stable and secure community. They are more likely to get involved in projects that improve their neighborhoods and lend a hand to the less fortunate. Helping children today, will lead to a stronger society tomorrow.
