Chaplain Highlight: Captains Kenyon and Melissa Sivels
Captains Kenyon and Melissa Sivels have served as corps officers at The Salvation Army Fort Wayne providing emotional and spiritual care to Allen County residents for the past three years. At the end of the week, they will be relocating to Illinois to serve at The Salvation Army Champaign County.
While reflecting on their time spent in Fort Wayne, Captain Melissa said she’ll miss those she has surrounded herself with. “It may seem cliché, but my favorite part of this appointment has been the people,” she explained. “Whether it’s our staff, volunteers, clients, congregation members, ARC beneficiaries, local youth, board members, community partners, or even a neighbor, they have made our time in Indiana truly so memorable. Fort Wayne will always be so special to us because of them.” Captain Kenyon built onto this idea of community by saying his favorite memory of his time in Indiana will be watching Jesus work in the lives of the corps’ staff, allowing the corps to reach more community members.
Together, they look forward to continuing the wonderful programs at The Salvation Army Champaign. “We are most excited about carrying on the good work that God has started there,” added Melissa. “They have a large youth program and that’s probably what I love most about ministry in general. It feels like such a gift to be able to pour into kids, teens, and young adults.”
