Devotional: Staying true to God’s mission
By Major Paula Pyle, Officer of the Parkview Salvation Army in North Minneapolis
What is your mission? What has God called you to do? Each of us has our own gifts, talents and abilities. But how we use what God had entrusted to us speaks volumes to others.
It is true during the Lenten Season we often deny ourselves of something. Denial also has to do with sacrifice. Christ sacrificed His life for us so that we could be saved and have a chance of living with Him eternally. Is it too much for us to then sacrifice our time, talents and treasures for God’s mission?
Sometimes we are asked to do a task or attend an event, but our human nature whispers in our ear, You have better things to do with your time. Are we staying true to God’s mission?
As we enter the Spring season, how we spring forth in our daily lives will reveal if we are staying true to God’s mission. What health initiatives have we stayed true to from the first day of 2021? Are we eating healthy, maintaining a balanced diet, exercising, and building our emotional and spiritual lives by spending time in prayer and daily devotion?
Let us remember that Jesus never hesitated to spring to the task of dying to self. He literally sacrificed His life for us.
Take healthy! Take heart!
Each day as we live, let us do our part!
To keep staying true to God’s mission!
And save our lives from Hell’s condemnation!
Let this chorus by Agnes Heathcote in our Songbook be an encourager to you today:
‘I’ll follow Thee of Life, the Giver.
I’ll follow Thee, Suffering Redeemer.
I’ll follow Thee, deny Thee never.
By God grace’s I’ll follow thee.
