Downriver Soup Day Benefits The Salvation Army Downriver Corps
The community came out in full force on Tuesday, March 5, to support Downriver Soup Day, benefiting The Salvation Army in Downriver. This is the first Soup Day since 2020 and people were eager to come back together for this fun tradition.
The Downriver Corps Community Center Advisory Council volunteers always lead the charge to secure a big list of restaurants, bars, and catering businesses to bring their best soups. This year, 22 soups competed.
*Famous Dave’s provided one of the soups
Attendees paid $10 and in return received a 6-hole muffin tin to place their soup samples. The event took place at The Grecian Center in Southgate. The venue generously donated the space so there was no overhead for this event.
By the end of the event, they raised $2,700 and the funds will support the local Salvation Army Breaking Bread Meal Program.
The results for best overall soup were:
- 1st place: TV's Diner - Lobster Bisque, Big Bear Lodge - White Chicken Chili
- 2nd Place: Piper's restaurant - Loaded Baked Potato
- 3rd Place: The Biddle Hall - Dill Pickle Soup
- 4th Place: The Grecian Center - Greek Avgolemono
