Ford Employees Volunteer During National Volunteer Week

During National Volunteer Week, The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division celebrates its incredible volunteers for their commitment, dedication and support to help Do the Most Good.
Ford Motor Company volunteers are helping out this week in the recently renovated Detroit Harbor Light kitchen. On Tuesday, three enthusiastic volunteers helped prep food: Kim Ascher, Madeline Cheng and Melissa Rapp, who work for The Ford Fund, Ford's philanthropic arm.
Ascher, who is the director of Finance and Governance at The Ford Fund, also volunteered recently at the phone bank for the Bed & Bread Club® Radiothon.
On the menu for the day was a taco bar, and later a dinner of mac and cheese, roasted pork loin, and garlic bread. The volunteers diced tomatoes with the help of Chef Michael Block’s expert instruction, and then made the garlic bread.
Food cooked in the kitchen is used in the Detroit Harbor Light dining room for clients, and on the Bed & Bread truck which delivers food to those in need throughout Detroit.
We are grateful for our friends at Ford for their generous support during National Volunteer Week and throughout the year. If you would like to support the Salvation Army Great Lakes Division, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer or donate all year round!
