Starting October 26, a Global Mission Team of 10 people will be going to Montego Bay Jamaica.
Global mission teams are open to adults across The Salvation Army Central Territory and have different focuses based on need. Earlier this year a Global Mission Team hosted a music camp in Liberia, Africa.
The Jamaica team will help repair roofs, assist with landscaping, and will help at the church and school. They will also assist with Sunday services and some programming, including activities for children.
5 team members are from the Great Lakes Division:
- Charol McDonald – Salvation Army GLD employee
- Doug Dobney – Member of Port Huron corps
- Lt. Johnathan Harvy – Conner Creek corps officer
- Major Shanda Minks – Warren corps officer
- Joshua Walker – Member of Midland corps

The team will be led by Viki Payton, Assistant Director – World Missions Dept. at Territorial Headquarters, who has led seven Global Mission Teams in the past.
Doug Dobney has participated in six mission teams, including in Ghana, where he helped put a roof on a chapel, and Ecuador, where he helped build a two-room schoolhouse. During the Jamaica trip he will be the project manager for construction projects.
“I think there’s not a better opportunity to serve God and humanity than through The Salvation Army, it just has so many service opportunities,” Dobney said.
The team will be in Jamaica 8 days in total to help the people of Jamaica.
