Radiothon Callers Tell Stories of Hope and Healing
Last month The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit held its 37th annual Bed & Bread Club® Radiothon where $1,637,238 was raised to combat hunger and homelessness. Throughout the day numerous celebrities and business owners called in and made donations.
Actor and comedian, Tim Allen, called in and gave a $25,000 matching donation. Edsel B. Ford II gave $35,000 and the list goes on.

To give a sense of who is being helped by the funds, multiple individuals called in to tell their stories and what The Salvation Army’s services has meant to them.
One of them was Tonya, who found herself homeless after the tragic death of her husband. She found shelter at the Booth Services Shelter in Detroit and is now in an apartment, working on getting her life back together. You can read her full story here.
Two other callers benefitted from services at the Macomb Harbor Light treatment center.
James went to Harbor Light in February of 2022 while addicted to pain killers, homeless and hungry. He has six children and was also working full-time. Thanks to the drug rehabilitation he was able to get the help he needed. He is now two years sober and attends The Salvation Army Mt. Clemens Corps Community Center church regularly.
*Jackie called in and told her story at the radiothon
Jackie was dependent on alcohol and went to the Harbor Light for help. After four months there she was able to find a home and get sober. But beyond the physical help, she also grew spiritually through the center’s programs.
“It really helped me become a better mother, build my relationship with God. They helped me out tremendously. I’m just so grateful for them. Now I have a place of my own and a year sober,” Jackie said.
Though these are only a few stories, they are representative of the countless others from people in all over Metro Detroit and beyond. The funds raised through the radiothon’s generous donations are helping them overcome homelessness, hunger and addiction every day.
