Rappeler profile: Jenny from KDWB
Jenny is an on-air personality for the ever-popular Dave Ryan Show on KDWB 101.3. Her reasons for participating in today’s Down for the Challenge event are twofold: 1) Conquer her fears. 2) Do something good.
“I have a bit of a fear of heights,” admitted Jenny, adding that she has never climbed or descended anything taller than the 10-foot rock-climbing wall at her childhood elementary school. “If you asked me to rappel down a building just for the fun of it, I would say absolutely not.”
Thankfully, her desire to do good outweighs her apprehension.
“It breaks my heart seeing homelessness on the rise,” Jenny said. “If I can do something like raise money and rappel down a building to help out, I'm all in. The Salvation Army's mission to help provide housing and homeless prevention programs aligns with my personal values.”
Down for the Challenge seeks to raise $600,000 for Salvation Army housing and homeless-prevention programs in the Twin Cities. The Salvation Army operates 25 housing facilities in Minnesota that shelter hundreds of people every night, with rent and utility assistance programs that last year helped save thousands of households from eviction.
Like many other rappelers, Jenny is also excited to harness the energy of Down for the Challenge.
“I’ve done triathlons, marathons, and 5k's, and the energy at those races is unmatched – so I'm also stoked to see the energy at this,” Jenny said. “I'm sure a lot of adrenaline will be pumping!”
