SALVATION ARMY COMPLETES ON-SITE FOOD SERVICE FOR SEARCH TEAMS, CONTINUES EXTRA SUPPORT
DAVENPORT, Iowa (June 6, 2023)—With search and rescue teams having completed their search for possible survivors at the scene of the apartment-building collapse, The Salvation Army of the Quad Cities Area has finished its on-site food service efforts in support of that search.
A Salvation Army canteen crew stationed at the scene had been serving meals around the clock since late Thursday. Monday evening, just after search and rescue teams concluded their efforts, that crew served a final meal to them—which was furnished by a local restaurant. In all, the canteen crew served a total of over 1,600 meals and snacks to search and rescue personnel and first responders at the scene over a period of five days.
Over the weekend, Salvation Army representatives joined forces with personnel from other local organizations at a Multi-Agency Resource Center in the Quad Cities. There, they met with a number of displaced apartment residents to provide a full spectrum of assistance to them.
Going forward, area Salvation Army offices will continue to care for displaced residents. The organization’s main food pantry, located at 100 Kirkwood Blvd. in Davenport, is open to serve them; personal hygiene items and clothing vouchers are also being distributed at that same location. Additionally, Salvation Army staff in the Quad Cities are helping displaced residents find new places to live. People needing assistance with this are encouraged to call 563-324-4808. This support will continue for as long as is needed.
The Salvation Army is taking in donations to support these ongoing relief efforts. Donations of furniture and other household items (mattresses excluded) can be taken to The Salvation Army facility at 4001 N. Brady St. in Davenport. Those wishing to make a monetary donation—which will go toward services such as rental assistance for displaced residents—can do so by clicking here.
