SALVATION ARMY HELPING METRO RESIDENTS DURING HEAT WAVE
With an entire week’s worth of temperatures ranging from the mid-90s to right at 100 degrees in the metro forecast, The Salvation Army is helping those in need to ‘beat the heat.’
Cooling Centers
Cooling centers offer air-conditioned spaces and cold bottled water during specific operating hours. They’re typically activated during times of extremely hot temperatures. Anyone in need of relief from the heat is welcome to stop in. Cooling center hours vary by location—as listed below:
Heritage Place at Renaissance Village

Monday – Friday 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Kroc Center
2825 Y St.
Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.; Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.
North Corps
2424 Pratt St.
Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The Salvation Army of Omaha Summer Fan Program
We are distributing boxed fans—free of charge—to those in need throughout the summer. This is done at our Salvation Army Burrows Center for Help and Hope location in Benson (6101 NW Radial Hwy). Anyone in need is eligible, but preference will be given to the disabled and to seniors. To receive a fan, one must bring the following to Burrows Center (please call 402-898-5860 with any questions):
- Photo ID
- Social Security card or birth certificate
- Proof of address within the last 30 days
