The Salvation Army Great Lakes Division Celebrates Donut Day 2024
*Lts. Bledsoe drop off donuts on National Donut Day to Silver Beach Pizza for aiding, encouraging, helping, promoting and loving in their community. They provide meals to the Men's Shelter and Family Shelter and make the community a better place.
The sweetest time of the year is upon us once again: National Donut Day. Every year The Salvation Army delivers donuts to organizations that share in our mission to Do The Most Good.
From first responders to businesses that donate food to shelters, we show our gratitude with a box of donuts and a note of appreciation.
Though officially established in 1938, National Donut Day goes back as far as 1917, when Salvation Army volunteers traveled to France and set up makeshift huts to provide soldiers with essential supplies, emotional and spiritual support and fresh baked donuts. The treat did more than raise spirits; it brought comfort and a taste of home to those who risked their lives.
The donut now serves as a symbol of the comfort that The Salvation Army provides to those in need, and we recognize those who, like the Donut Lassies, have helped spread that comfort and love.
