The Salvation Army to Proceed With Feed The Kids Program
Extra precautions will be taken to ensure safety
MILWAUKEE COUNTY – The Salvation Army of Milwaukee County will proceed with its annual Feed the Kids program this summer. Due to COVID-19, volunteers and staff will take extra precautions with packing and handing out lunches.
Feed The Kids, which will run June 15 to August 21 (Monday through Friday), is a summer meal program for children living in Milwaukee’s underserved neighborhoods. Volunteers will prepare about 1,500 lunches per day. The lunches will contain a sandwich, cheese stick, snack (every Friday) and 100% fruit juice.
“This is a critical need in our community,” said Major Steve Woodard. “In 2019, The Salvation Army served 66,614 meals through this program,”
Meals will be distributed to 21 different neighborhoods (three routes) on Milwaukee's north and south sides.
Here are the extra precautions The Salvation Army is using to ensure the safe preparation and delivery of food:
- Temperatures will be taken prior to volunteers/staff entering the building
- Volunteers preparing and handing out sandwiches will be following social distancing guidelines
- We will have hand sanitizer available for staff to utilize before and after serving meals
- Staff will be wearing protective equipment such as gloves and masks when making and handing out lunches
- Cones will be placed to indicate where individuals should line up if they are participating in the program
