The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of April 3
In order to understand the context of Hosea 4:3, it’s important to read and take in the first two verses of the book.
God condemns the Israelites for turning away from his Word – his teachings – and choosing to make their own decisions and choices.
He says: “Hear the word of the Lord, you Israelites, because the Lord has a charge to bring against you who live in the land: There is no faithfulness, no love, no acknowledgment of God in the land.”
He continues by chastising his people, saying: “There is only cursing, lying and murder, stealing and adultery; they break all bounds, and bloodshed follows bloodshed.”
The lesson here is that our choices and actions result in consequences. When we make choices that don’t follow God’s laws, we encounter hardships and feel God’s wrath.
When we follow his Word, we are rewarded, and God takes care of us in multiple ways.
