The Weekly Word - A Devotion for the Week of February 20
The love of God, demonstrated by Jesus on the cross, is our foundation for how to treat one another.
We are to be devoted—committed—to other Christians; to act selflessly.
Likewise, we are to honor each other (regardless of status, position, or any other factor) because we are all precious children of God.
When we honor others above ourselves, we are not doing so from a place of weakness. Rather, we are acting from the strength that comes from knowing we are useful, wanted, unique individuals in the family of God.
It takes such little effort to treat one another with love and respect. It rarely costs anything other than a little bit of time, consideration and kindness.
When you put it into these terms of measurement, it’s amazing to think that the act isn’t automatic – that it takes an amount of thought to do something nice for someone else.
If we truly strive to emulate God, we need only look at the example his Son made during his time on earth. He acted with compassion, kindness, forgiveness and love. We should do the same.
